I have eaten gas station sammiches and fried chicken, though.

One of the best chicken sammiches I ever had was at a gas station
somewhere in the mountains of West Virginia. ;)

Yep, same for me with a BLT in the backwoods of Vermont! I may go back
there again one day just for that! Hahaha

I was back through that area a few years later... I was positive that I
would remember the exit but I could not find it. Maybe it was a sammich mirage. ;)

I went to a sushi boat restaurant in San Francisco recently for the
first time since my kids were young.

There was a plate of uni that went around the whole time we were there, unchosen...

Sounds like there was no one minding the "boats" too well.

    Mike,

You would think they'd stop in the bigger cities, but it could
be that it has become easier to find places to stop in ones
    that are not so big.

Plus, stopping at places like a convenience store/gas station that's
open 24 hours, means they don't have to pay for building rental and
    upkeep.

    Mike,

    Have fun!

It will be my first out of state vacation in 9 years...and with the
health and finances, it could be the last big trip I can take.

When I rode them as a kid, the run between Louisville and Owensboro only
had two stops at actual stations, and that was at those two cities. The
other stops were at cafes or stores, and other hole in the wall places.

Actually, I take that back... I don't remember what the stop at Ft. Knox
was like. It might have also been a station of some sort, but not the "civilian" type one you'd see in the two cities.

I suppose, if you treat raw chicken as meticulously as you do sushi,
    you'd be ok. But, erP...

Sounds like a good way to meet Sal Monella. ;)
